Camp Never Rest Eelpout Report 2006

Camp Never Rest '06 An inside look through the Eelpout Journal

Thursday, February 9, 2006

After much anticipation Camp Never Rest departed from many locations all across the nation to meet at a central location in the Twin Cities. We meditated for deep thought, and then had our yearly election meeting. We discused the itenerary of events and ventures of the '06 Eelpout festival protocol! Shortly after the conclusion of our meeting we loaded up the Camp Never Rest RV with our updated encampment and then prepared for an alocohol induced flight to Walker Minnesota with multiple resting stops planned.

Upon arriving around 2am we immediately noticed (via the police car at the entrance) that we missed the ever-so-importatnt deadline to drive on the ice by just a few short hours. Needless to say, those that were still sober, were sadly disappointed. Though, I must say, we came prepared for such an unfortunate event! We really had only ourselves to blame, we figured we could live with it. Our timely pit stops on our Northern journey had much to do with the fact that we did not meet our deadline. So, we made the best of it, we settled in, had a brief meeting on the next days protocol, and hit the sack for what we knew would be a difficult morning of construction ahead of us!

After waking up early Friday morning Chuck (the King) informed us it was time for our Bikrum Yoga stretching. So, after a few weird poses (some in the nude, vettel) we prepared to head out! We loaded up the 4-wheeler, the trailer and headed out to the lake…. After much searching, and debate we eventually found a place of which we felt was distinguished enough for our camp. Once our site was finalized, we gathered around and performed our ceremonial "Golden Hole Drill" (don’t ask).

Once the ceremony concluded we began to (thanks to a healthy donation from Pulte Homes) put our high tech soundly engineered dwelling together. This lavish Eelpout bovac shack was carefully built to unique specifications, with all the amenities of home… a bathroom in the lower level with an auto flush sensor. It also included a surround sound stereo system throughout the shack, and even a small kitchen with electricity to run our blender! The heating system was fantastic, it was dual purpose it gave us heat and also was built in a way that allowed us the opportunity to make a nice meal on it! Once our shack was completed and had approval from the CNR board of directors, we then began our official CNR opening ceremony meeting to kick of the 2006 EELPOUT Festival! Friday after our shack was built, though it was physically demanding and a bit cold, was very exciting. We met many nice people, and had many stop by as we were building our structure to say hello …. One women "in shock" said as she walked by "wow that is so big, and solid...I want it" I smiled because I thought she was talking about our lavish living conditions, I quickly realized she was looking at one of our members through the bathroom window! Oh, its good to be the KING!

Friday evening came and so did the people... many came to visit, some even dared to apply for membership. After group interviews, unfortunatly only one qualified. We did a midnight indoctrination ceremony to let him in the group! Though I cannot recall his name or where he was from.. When he returns next year he simply has to say the "password" and all will be good! He will always be a member of CNR! The remainder of Friday night gets a bit fuzzy, I recall things such as our neighbors shack and the MEAT STICKS.. They were very good! It was a PRICELESS moment! Simply, if you could get past the frozen beers and the wind, it was great that night.
I also know that around 2am ESPN stopped by for an EXCLUSIVE CNR INTERVIEW… They interviewed two of our trusted board members about our history and more! … Now how many camps can say that! ( it was eventually aired on ESPN Bass Pros)

Saturday morning was, for some reason, extremely difficult for most of us! Some claim that it might had been the food from dinner the night before. Do get us back into the festival spirit our bikrim leader again lead us in a fantastic session of Yoga and allowed us to “follow our free spirits.” As soon as our yoga session was over, we took our free spirits that were givin to us the night before, and started drinking them. Like most years at the festival Saturday started very slow, but after making new friends with a group from Wisconsin that calls themselves BOGGERS the day started to really spin and so again did the blender, with addition to the bloody mary’s! Camp BOG really bailed us out of a tough situation, and speaking of bailing out, ah wait..… I will save that story for another article. Anyway, CNR was in a serious tailspin do to lack of sleep, a large hang over, and perhaps some bad food from Hardees the day before. It was in my opinnion that the Bikrim Yoga had worn us out a bit too! But by mid-afternoon/early evening in true CNR character we began our final run! We were all, for some reason, finding our 2nd wind again, and began feeling MUCH better. When the group finally got really moving we loaded up the 4-wheeler, trailer and with a large group of people headed down to the North end of the festival to see if the lavish dwellings could compete with this years rendition of CNR… after realizing that not one esablishment could come close to ours, we began to hop from one place to another, making our annual bovak crawel a wonderful success! (thats bar hopping in FINNISH) We met many CNR friends and had a fantastic time.... We even had a hummer for a bit..........The vehicle silly! And thats when thing seemed to get rather fuzzy… (just see bar/dancing pics… it may explain why….) Sadly, or quite funny depending how you look at it, the night ended on an interesting note.. somehow the keys to the 4-wheeler were lost… unfortunatley we didnt have another set, and it caused a bit of anomosity within our group (memeber was released due to insobordination-- SERIOUSLY!) and really caused a downer!

We all decided NO YOGA on Sunday, instead we woke up and began to disassemble the 2006 version of Camp Never Rest. Slowly it came down, and again many of us asked "why did we do this to ourselves" and one person answered "sure wish this was another day. I'd get rid of this hangover!" by 10am we had the camper loaded up, our newly exiled memeber had left and we decided to hit the road… Like always, it was a fantastic time, we met some awesome people.. and we would like to say thanks to all that stopped by… and well… we hope that everyone will stop by CAMP NEVER REST next year!Special shout out to our Wisconsin and Moose Lake friends and GREEN HAT GUY!! It was Was a blast! Keep in touch!Camp Never Rest
